Jean and Sam are two of the bubbliest and most spontaneous wedding couple any photographer will come across in their career. No, it is not a bad thing but a very wonderful one. Since day one from our phone and email correspondence, Jean has been precise and organised in her pursue of the desired wedding photographer, and it showed in her very specific request of certain things as well as mannerism in which the actual day was supposed to be photographed.

Sam has a very dedicated and quiet charm to his nature and I guessed as much that is one of the main reason why Jean fell in love with this man. He is very assertive yet doing it in very subtle manner. He loves to play jester but try to compose and poise himself as best as he could, however, infront of the camera and us, you know as well as I do, there is no way we will let this funny yet charming individual hide from us!

Jean & Ricky ROM

Jean May runs the now infamous JUST GOWNS bridal gown and dress rental. Ricky is a dive instructor maestro. Both met while Jean was taking diving lessons from Ricky and both gradually feel in love. To celebrate this wonderful occasion, the solemnisation was held away from the normal buzz of population and traffic, in a hidden quiet corner hillside.

The atmosphere was subtle yet filled with joy. Lively yet serenity fills the air. It was just pure romantic. So country yet of the essence of wilderness. The decors were simple yet the end results look sophisticated. Jean had obviously put a lot of thoughts into this white and blue theme. Well done Jean!

Essential Photography is an official partner of JUST GOWNS and there is no way we will miss out on this occasion. We deployed 3 photographers to spice up the entire ROM event with various crew covering their specific area of responsibilities.

Obviously we gotten quite a complete coverage for such an occasion but interestingly Jean’ & Ricky's friends and relatives were all very surprised to see the bunch of us when we first arrived! Probably it was because most are still doing their ROM with only 1 photographer, but, like I said it before, this is Jean May's celebration and we will blame ourselves for missing out that wonderful afternoon's union of a new wedding couple.

红包 / 逗利是 (Red Envelope)

A symbol of good luck, prosperous life and more important, a means to ward of evil intentions by spirits themselves just by the virtue of its bright and brilliant colour, Red. The acceptance and offering generous amount of money sealed in red envelopes with auspicious wordings or greetings inscribed on it, means an everlasting and blissful marriage for the wedding couple. For those who are wed on that very day, this is an important part of the traditional Chinese custom in which all are expected to offer as well as to receive from parents and relatives of elderly status.

This common way of blessings and good will is often used also as payment or favours to those who had rendered well, but not to be seen as a formality of corporate remittance, accompanying monies are almost always dawned in the Red Envelope in most parts a symbol of gratitude. On a typical Chinese wedding, the generous use of red envelopes are very significant of the joy which the wedding couple wants to share and distribute with that of their close friends and relatives.

The use of red envelopes are amongst many of the traditions which were spread from mainland China and onto its South Eastern neighbours. Whether in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam or even Burma, these red coloured of fortune symbols becomes an integral of joyous celebrations. Today, manufacturers with entrepreneurial mindset are coming out with better colour (still with the traditional RED) and designs to suit the modern age brides. No longer the red envelopes are just designated with words of blessings, and in fact some designs only concentrate on adorable characters of a wedding couple .

The wedding bouquet is an important necessity used in any wedding. It symbolises a bride in bloom and the flowers she chose relating to aroma, colour and decoration. Which brings back sweet memories of their wedding day.

Tossing the wedding bouquet is a very westernised tradition that has been passed on to modern day weddings. The bride would throw the bouquet over her shoulder, to be caught by a single female friend and it would mean that she would be the next one to marry.

Equally, the groom could throw his buttonhole over his shoulder towards his single male friends, and the same thing could apply. This combined celebration of spreading good luck and blessings to their closest of friends are very often, the newly weds' way of conveying their personal thanks.
